Dr. Jesse Berent

In this talk I will give an overview of some of the work done in Perception at Google Research, focusing in particular on video content analysis and applications. Some examples will include how we use computer vision to improve online advertising products as well as some of our work on learning visual models from weak supervision and web data platforms such as YouTube. I will present how we used transfer learning for other domains e.g. personal photos. Finally, I will discuss some of the big open challenges we are facing. BIO: Jesse Berent is a Senior Staff Research Scientist and Tech Lead Manager at Google Research Europe. His group focuses on Video Content Analysis, Machine Learning and applications in Google products. Prior to joining Google in 2009, Jesse was a postdoctoral researcher at Imperial College London focusing on multi-view image analysis. He obtained his PhD in 2008 in Communications and Signal Processing at Imperial College London and his Masters in Micro-engineering from the EPFL, Switzerland. His research interests include video understanding, video creation and learning from video.
