Proc.~of the third Intern. Conference on Automation, Robotics and Computer Vision (Singapore)
For many applications it is critical to accurately fit elliptical arcs
to measured data points. We develop a modification of the least
squares algorithm that has a mechanism to fit an elliptical arc to the data and
to segment the data, in parallel. We show that this approach
improves both, the accuracy of the fitted ellipse and the reliability of
the segmentation. In addition, the algorithm uses a new Euclidean distance
approximation with a low computational complexity to build the sum
squares of the distances from the data points to an ellipse.
