Jonas Spillmann received his PhD degree in Computer Science from University of Freiburg in 2008, where he was a member of Professor Matthias Teschner's research group. Dr. Spillmann is currently a Postdoctoral fellow at Computer Vision Laboratory at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, where he is working with Dr. Harders on interactive surgical simulation.

Research interests:
Surgical simulators: In our research group, we are investigating into high-fidelity training simulators for surgical procedures. The focus is on combining novel approaches for deformation simulation and contact handling with state-of-the-art rendering techniques.
Elastic rod modeling: Elastic rods are one-dimensional flexible structures that can twist and bend. Due to their inherent non-linear deformations, they are challenging to simulate. In my work, I have proposed novel approaches for deformation modeling and contact handling of elastic rods.
Contact handling: Detecting and resolving collisions is an important task in many simulation frameworks. I have proposed efficient approaches for detecting collisions between geometrically deformable objects, and to handle collisions between volumetric and non-volumetric objects.
